Tasha (윤미래) – Get It In ft. Tiger JK & Jung In

My first impression of Tasha was from We Got Married, during the episode when Nichkhun & Victoria visit Tasha & Tiger JK’s home for a babysitting visit. I didn’t realize she was a singer/rapper, and I certainly didn’t expect for her to be making a comeback. If you didn’t get enough autotune, there’s also a Korean version of this song.

For a music video with such a cool theme, they couldn’t find Tasha a cooler outfit? She looks like she could be going shopping at the Salvation Army or pulling weeds in the backyard or something. Then again, maybe it’s a statement against the typical skin-tight leather & heels kinds of outfits that female action stars have to squeeze into. The choreography is sexy, and the special effects are nice, though I’m not a fan of the color changes because they seem to detract from the quality of the video.

Scotty McCreery – The Trouble With Girls

So this is the guy who won the 10th season of American Idol, eh? He’s like David Archuleta: cute and normal-looking until he opens his mouth and out comes the voice of a man. Actually, I thought Scotty was pretty goofy-looking when I saw his photos after he won AI, but he looks much better with a layer (or seven) of bronzer on his face. And just a tiny hint of scruff along his jawline.

The mature tone of his voice and the song contrast with the content of the video. An overflowing chemistry flask? HAHAHA HILARIOUS SCIENCE IS SO FUNNY WILL YOU GO OUT WITH ME?! Yes that’s what he’s thinking. I’m struggling between deeming this as intolerably cheesy or wonderfully adorable, but since Scotty’s only 18, I’ll forgive him for the juvenile content (e.g. passing notes in class, cheering for him at baseball practice, etc.). He does, however, sing that he has:

Spent my whole life trying to figure out
Just what them girls are all about

That’s hilarious! How much life experience has he had? Enough to know both everything and nothing about girls, apparently. I take issue with the way he sings certain words at the beginning of certain lines. Sometimes when he utters “they” or “the way,” the note is so low that it gets caught in his throat and comes out as more of a croak. (Fun fact: That whole sentence could be its own poem!)

Taio Cruz – Hangover ft. Flo Rida

Let me ask you something, Taio Cruz: Have you ever had an actual hangover? If so, why the heck are you writing an upbeat pop song about it? I love the party/club music that’s popular these days, but a hangover isn’t really something to celebrate, and I definitely wouldn’t want to hear this song if I was hungover. This song is like Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” for the 21+ crowd. (Or maybe 18+. Y’all know kids start early these days.)

It’s good to see Bobby Lee again. At first I thought it was Ken Jeong doing his usual “psycho little Asian man” schtick, but then I remembered that Bobby Lee had that base in Hollywood covered before Mr. Jeong made it big. (Fun fact: They were both on MADtv!)

From the looks of it, Taio Cruz likes to party with lots of beautiful women…and Flo Rida and Bobby Lee. I get that those three men are pretty cool, but I’d venture to say that this party needs more dudes. Unless Taio, Flo and Bobby crashed someone’s bachelorette party.

May or may not be a real brand...I couldn't find it online.

MYNAME (마이네임) – Message

With a pretty impressive debut, the group otherwise known as “Hwanhee Boys” joins the already crowded ranks of new K-pop groups. What catches my attention most is their hair — it’s like the have plastic hair-helmets glued to their scalps. Hair gel and wax are great in some cases, but plasticine hair that doesn’t move is not very attractive. Hair should swish and be fluffy and should inspire daydreams about running my fingers through it!

MYNAME (is the name supposed to be capitalized like that?) comes at us with a simple video: a few different sets, a few costume changes, all dancing and solo shots so we can familiarize ourselves with their faces. It’s effective and likable. However, I do not appreciate the faded color scheme of this video — it makes their skin look ashen like zombies. I’m pretty sure their faces are not grey IRL.

Beyoncé – Party ft. J. Cole

Another day, another accusation of plagiarism against Beyoncé. It’s the new thing! Soon hipsters will be telling each other, “I was a victim of Beyoncé’s thievery before she was even in Destiny’s Child.” In this case, I don’t think Khia has much to go on, so good luck with that.

The word “party” has a lot of meanings, but I didn’t expect that when Beyoncé sang “we like to party,” she would mean “we like to consummate the relationship.” The title of the song and the premise of the video focus on, well, Queen B having a retro house/backyard party. The lyrics, however, are about being young and in love and wanting to spend the night with this particular person for the first time. Are you trying to confuse us, Bey?

We get a lot of Beyoncé’s cleavage in this video, which also leads me to wonder how she manages to put out mvs in rapid succession while pregnant. Were they all filmed before she started showing?? It’s just fueling the conspiracy theories.
